December's (Fully Festive) Drop
This year we're rocking a sleigh-load of festive tarts to get you in the spirit for what we've heard some people call "the most wonderful time of the year". Think all your quintessential festive treats (candy canes, trifles, eggnog, gingerbread and Christmas ham) all in slices! Not only that, we've really jingled the proverbial bells with our first ever take on Mince Pies. Ho Ho Ho!
Mince Pies
Half & Whole Tarts
The key to a brilliant trifle is being able to taste all the textures and flavours in one, delicious hit and that's why this tart-ified version works so well (seriously). Inside we've got a strawberry jam, a lemon-soaked sponge, a vanilla custard, strawberry glaze and yogurt cream, finished impeccably with lime zest, white chocolate pearls and strawberry crispies. It's a textural and flavourful Christmas miracle of a tart! NOTE: This tart comes portioned only due to the intricate detail of the piping.
Our most revered Christmas tart and for good reason! A spicy and oh-so-creamy eggnog custard resides above a thin layer of perfectly sweet fruit mince jam, inside our buttery shortcrust pastry. If you are on the fence about fruit mince (like most of us are for 11 months of the year) then let this be the decider! This tart is pre-sliced in the photo because, well, we mucked up. If you order a whole or half, it will come to you intact, promise!
NOTE: Cake layer is a dark chocolate. Image for reference only. You know the time of the year when you succumb to eating a candy cane simply because it was lying around and you think, 'this could be so much better'? This year, we've gone with a white chocolate brownie base dotted with chocolate chips (the real ones), a minty topping and a candy cane design to get you in the 'spirit'. Delicious and festive in equal measures!
I asked Gareth what I should say about the 'Mulled Wine and Gingerbread Tart' and he said, 'it's ****ing great'. Usually something we keep under our belts to whip out for our Christmas Menu, this month we're bringing the festive spirit early and enjoying spicy, creamy, indulgent goodness in the season it was intended...winter! A gingerbread custard is topped with a mulled wine and pear glaze and housed in our thin and buttery shortcrust pastry. This tart will take you to the Christmas markets of Europe, even if you've never been.
It's our classic Cherry and Almond Tart (aka Gareth's favourite tart) but we've added some Christmas spices to the mix... literally! The original version of this tart is a tribute to a dessert Gareth made way back when as an apprentice chef, and is one of the very first tarts we had on the Tarts Anon menu. We love the original and we love this Christmas-ified version, too.
It's all the best bits of the Christmas lunch in a triangle shape. A ham and leek cake, cranberry sauce, spiced custard and a pork crumb. Try and resist a second slice!
If you're not spending Christmas in Europe then let us take you there with this tart reminiscent of roasted chestnuts over a fire. Inside you'll find a smokey chestnut custard on a mushroom and cabbage cake with crunchy cabbage and Parmesan crumbs. We can't give you snow but we can give you this!
