About us

Open Hearth was created by Alex Clare and Kat Turner to provide locals and B&B guests along Bells Line of Road with simple fine food to their door.

They found that offerings further along the Line are limited and that sometimes you just want to stay in your pyjamas and slippers in front of the fire!

Alex Clare moved to London from her native Serbia and worked in hospitality there for 15 years, developing her love of food and service. She moved to Australia in 2005 where she studied Shiatzu and yoga teaching. Through this study she was introduced to the principles of Chinese medicine and food as healing. After a time catering for yoga retreats, Alex started working as a private chef in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and northern beaches. She has continued this for over ten years.

Alex lives on a century-old property in Bilpin in an early settler’s cottage with her photographer husband and two cats.

Kat Turner has been working in the food and hospitality industry for over 25 years.

She has worked as a qualified chef on Sydney’s north shore and CBD, in the Blue Mountains and in London, where she lived for many years. Her time managing popular London bars and venues honed Kat’s focus on customer service. In Sydney Kat has worked with well known Australian chefs Liam Tomlin, Darryl Felstead, Matt Moran, Ross Dobson, Sean Moran and Marty Boetz.

Born and raised in the Hawkesbury, Kat lives in the village of Kurrajong with butcher Darren O’Rourke and their three children.

Together Alex and Kat have many years’ experience and are passionate about sharing their love of wholefoods, local produce, organic ingredients, sustainable practices and holistic nutrition with their clients.

Both women practise yoga. They believe food is part of practice, and practice is life.

How it works
  • Pre order from our monthly menu

  • Complete your order by 8pm Saturday

  • We source seasonal ingredients, then cook, chill and pack your meal

  • We deliver the following Friday

  • You heat to our simple instructions… and enjoy!
