Our Story
Southall Foods is a family run Melbourne food business built on over 35 years of restaurant heritage. We create small batch a la carte meals and food products using authentic recipes, quality ingredients and real cooking technique. From our family to yours .

Southall Foods brings generations of authentic Indian hospitality to Melbourne This is our 36th year . Led by Ravnish Gandhi, a third-generation restaurateur, Southall Food’s story is deeply rooted in family, tradition and a lifelong passion for sharing Indian food with the local community.
Ravnish grew up in hospitality, working alongside his parents Arvind and Jaspal at the much-loved Bombay by Night from 1990 through to 2015 before opening Southall. Today, that same family spirit remains at the heart of the business, with Arvind’s treasured dessert recipes and the family’s warm hospitality continuing to shape the Southall experience. Food here is not simply about convenience, it is about culture, heritage and genuine connection.
Now based in Hampton, Southall has become a Melbourne favourite known for delivering authentic Indian cuisine that reflects the diversity and richness of India’s regional cooking traditions. The menu goes far beyond the familiar, showcasing dishes inspired by different corners of India, each prepared with traditional techniques, layered spices and genuine attention to detail.
Signature dishes include the beloved chicken tikka masala, slow-cooked kaali daal prepared over 48 hours in a charcoal tandoor, fragrant lamb biryani, comforting saag paneer, delicate lamb shank rezala from West Bengal and Goan fish curry made with fresh house-made coconut cream. Even the desserts remain proudly rooted in family tradition, with classics such as gulab jamun and mango kulfi continuing recipes established decades ago.
Through Cookaborough, Southall Foods is now extending this authentic Indian offering to Support at Home (SaH) recipients across Melbourne. For older residents who love Indian food; particularly those from Indian and South Asian backgrounds, or anyone seeking culturally rich and flavourful alternatives to standard ready-made meals; Southall offers something genuinely different.
Meals are prepared by an experienced restaurant kitchen that understands quality, consistency and flavour. For Support at Home recipients, this means access to nourishing meals that are easy to enjoy at home while maintaining independence and choice. Southall’s offering is ideal for Melbourne seniors seeking culturally familiar food or simply wanting restaurant-quality Indian meals prepared with care.
As a business built on family values and community connection, Southall sees food as more than nourishment, it is comfort, memory and a way of bringing people together. By bringing their meals into the homes of Melbourne residents, Southall is helping Support at Home clients enjoy authentic Indian cooking without the effort of shopping, cooking or compromising on quality.
