... I was invited to lunch with new friends. Believing that 'taking a plate' is polite, I made some sourdough bread to really impress.

With my baby in one arm, I knocked at the door and offered up my ... ahem ... 'bread'. It was graciously accepted, discreetly put to the side and wasn't spoken of or seen again.

I don't remember anything further of that lunch except for the sinking realisation that I had terribly underestimated the art of sourdough.

From that calamity, I developed a real sense of appreciating the slow, meaningful process that is required of sourdough.  I have enjoyed the challenge and get a thrill from producing quality baked goods from good ingredients.

Today, I bake sourdough products from home for my local community.  It is rewarding work, but most of all it is the love of baking and sharing something that is truly wholesome with my local community that inspires me (...there might be a little sense of redemption in there too!)
