At Mack’s Snacks, food is about more than flavour — it’s about comfort, connection, and community.
The story of Mack’s Snacks began back in 1949, when the McLeod family first opened the doors and began serving hearty, homestyle meals to the people of Warrnambool. For three generations, the McLeods built a reputation for wholesome food and friendly service. When the time came for the family to hand over the reins, they chose someone who shared their same heart for people and passion for good food — Diane.
Diane first started working at Mack’s Snacks straight out of school. After spending several years waitressing, she took a break to raise her children before returning to the café part-time. A few years later, encouraged by her team and customers, Diane decided to take her love of food even further, completing a formal chef’s apprenticeship and becoming a qualified chef.
Not long after, the McLeods asked Diane to take over the business they had run for generations and she’s been proudly running Mack’s Snacks ever since.
Today, Mack’s Snacks is known across Warrnambool for fresh, homestyle cooking just like you’d make at home. Every meal is made from scratch, using fresh ingredients and traditional recipes that have been part of the café since the beginning.
From made to order sandwiches and the famous Tuesday Night Roast (with rotating meats like beef, pork, chicken, or lamb, plus all the trimmings) to comforting lasagnes, vegetarian rice rolls, and the original 1948 vegetable soup recipe, every dish reflects the warmth and care of home cooking.
Mack’s Snacks also proudly supports Home Care Package clients, helping older Australians enjoy nutritious, comforting meals that make daily life easier.
For Diane, the most rewarding part of running Mack’s Snacks isn’t just the food — it’s the people. Many of her customers have become friends over the years, and she’s watched their families grow alongside her own.
