Bay Grocer

“We always champion small and local - but we also sink our teeth into many quality imported goods. We are not everything to everyone but we offer so much of what people need and plenty of what they want.”

About us

Bay Grocer in beautiful Byron Bay is owned by Sarah Swan and Jeremy Burn, previously of 100 Mile Table.

Our greatest passion is food - and providing the community with fresh chef-prepared home style meals to make dining at home both simple and delicious is something that makes us genuinely happy. Our menus change on a weekly basis but you’ll always find a good selection of the classics - beef and vegetable lasagnes, bolognaise sauces, curries, pies, pastas, soups, desserts and more - and occasionally even the much loved fish pie. We cook with the seasons and use the best produce available to us locally. Our chefs pride themselves on cooking with love, care and respect for the produce at hand.

We are also proud to support our local aged care community via our integration into the Home Care Package (HCP) in which eligible participants are only required to pay for 30% of the cost of their meals.

We would like to acknowledge and thank the many beautiful local farms that are represented in store – too many to list. Those that know the Northern Rivers well will know that this place punches above it’s weight when it comes to growers, makers, producers – the talent is mind blowing and we proudly stock a huge selection of local products at the grocer – we shout ‘support local’ loudly from the front counter all the way through to the darkest back corner of our cool room. We sell meats from Trevor Mead Butchery, Barcoo, Fair Game Wild Venison & the local Dorper lamb. We sell fish from The Bay Seafood Market. We have the wonderful Salumi Australia deli meats and lots of beautiful cheeses from Byron Bay Cheese Co, Nimbin Valley Dairy & Burringbar cheese maker Deb Allard as well as an international selection of cheeses from Will Studd - plus San Daniele prosciutto, jamon, terrines and pates and all the pastas, passatas, pickles and chutneys you could possibly want.

A little about Sarah and Jeremy…

A chef for over 30 years, Sarah's background stretches from The Bayswater Brasserie and Bather’s Pavilion in Sydney, to a 14 year stint with the Rockpool Group, as a chef, in marketing, media liaison, website and social media management.

With a Business Studies degree in marketing, Jeremy worked extensively with vineyards and wine brands in New Zealand including a term as Operations Manager for Stonyridge Vineyard on Waiheke Island. After a couple of years in London Jeremy joined the Hipgroup in Auckland which owned and operated 10 of Auckland’s most awarded cafes and restaurants.

What do we really know? We know that our team is what makes us strong. We pride ourselves on the strength, talent and commitment of the people we surround ourselves with and love them every day for making us look good.

How it works

Every Friday we send a menu with the meals selected by Sarah, Jeremy and their kitchen team for the following week. They include a mixture of staple favourites as well as weekly specials designed to be enjoyed at home with family and friends. Orders need to be placed by Monday night for delivery or pick up on Thursday. We also always have a selection of meals in-store if you need something on the go.
