Avon River Farmhouse

It all began with a home-cooked meal for our next-door neighbors, a sheep-farming family and my love of cooking.

About us

Whether you are on the land farming or living in a high-rise city block living the hustle and bustle of city life, we are all feeling the rush of everyday modern living. Time commitments for extra activities, technology, and communication drive us to reply and react instantly not allowing any spare time in our days. I would love to give families large and small the chance to spend quality time doing what they enjoy together, and that may not necessarily be cooking, I get it not everyone enjoys cooking as much as I do.

Married to a third-generation dairy farmer and with a daughter of our own, our kitchen table to the heart of the farm. It's where important decisions are made, and plans and goals are roughly mapped out. It's an old wooden table that we lean on when friends come and visit with a hot cup of tea in hand and a plate full of homemade slices. A table where we squeeze the family around to eat a Sunday roast together. Tears and laughter echo through the cracks of the wood as the seasons pass by. Sticky juice from produce grown on the farm and then lovingly preserved to sit on our pantry shelf until in the depth of winter a surprise awaits on every shelf, ready to be cooked into something delicious. What is your kitchen table used for?

Today, our farmhouse meals are replicated from our base in Sale, located at the Gippsland Grammar Junior School Tuck Shop Kitchen, we look after the students and staff Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and cook for our families on Thursday's.

We use the freshest and best quality ingredients and everything I can grow in my spare time in the Farmhouse Garden. There is nothing that I would not feed my own family, well maybe some of the mushroom dishes. My husband does have a slight aversion to curries, especially when driving the tractor at Harvest time, I have no idea why!

The team has grown over the last year and I have a fantastic crew. Our head chef Craig has brought his culinary and photographic skills to the team, Tarsh, brings her efficiency, and enthusiasm along with her previous career’s medical skills, sometimes required. Simone, brings support and the willingness to try anything with me. Simone and I have had many an adventure since the beginning when trying to discover what we were best at and Helen volunteers at the school tuck shop on a Friday, every Friday. Every single one of these wonderful persons contributes to our fresh meals made in our kitchen that arrive for your tables for your families large and small. They are also very special to me as they support me to fulfil my goals.

I hope we see you soon in the farmhouse kitchen, we are very much looking forward to cooking your dinner sometime soon.
